Gin begins with Thomas Dakin – the forefather of quality English gin. Thomas Dakin is a classic-style juniper-led Single London Dry Gin with notes of sweet orange, citrus, enlivened by an infusion of distinctive red cole (horseradish), made the traditional way, not from essence, as that´s how Thomas Dakin himself made the gin back in 1761. It´s handcrafted using the finest and carefully selected botanicals, added to our grain-neutral spirit by hand inside our baby copper pot still, which has a capacity of 450 litres. Each production run will produce approximately 4500 bottles. Currently, the gin is made by G&J Distillers, the oldest continuous gin distillers in the world founded by Thomas Dakin in 1761, at its distillery in Warrington, which is the world´s oldest gin distillers, close to where Thomas Dakin distilled his original gin. Master distiller at G&J Distillers Joanne Moore (including the brands Opihr, Bloom, Berkeley Square and Greenall’s Original) is the master distiller of Thomas Dakin, too. However, we are committed to building a distillery in Manchester and when ready will distil our gin there in the future. In 1761, at the outset of the Industrial Revolution, Thomas Dakin began distilling gin in Warrington in the north of England, at the age of 25. Over 250 years later, our northern-spirited gin has a rich and genuine story to tell, and we distinguish ourselves very simply by telling that great story. Thomas Dakin was a true original in every respect. He pioneered the development and refinement of high quality English gin. His inventive and enlightened outlook created a superior quality spirit and an unrivalled gin distilling heritage and legacy. He built an empire from nothing and invented gin as we know it. Thomas Dakin has every right to lay claim to a fundamental role in the history of gin making – he was the forefather of quality gin. We distinguish ourselves by proudly telling our 250 year story. With over 250 years and the collective experience of seven master distillers under our belt, we know how to make the world’s best gin. We stand behind our gin as the definitive gin, and therefore the best in the world.
