La Valdôtaine
The majestic mountain peaks that frame our alpine distillery form a very special botanical environment in which herbs, roots, berries, grains, flowers and fruits thrive in the clear mountain air. Monks and master distillers have always used the plants to produce their fine distillates, infusions and liqueurs. For centuries, the inhabitants of the Aosta Valley have been using their knowledge to produce their unique Alpine herbal distillates from exquisite plant essences. La Valdôtaine is a small distillery in the mountains that draws inspiration from the ancient traditions of the art of distillation. Here, small batches are produced by hand in old copper stills. Rare mountain herbs are macerated and then carefully distilled. Our traditional alambics (distilling helmets), the regional ingredients and the mineral-rich water give our distillates their special alpine character. In the mountains behind the distillery, a two-hour walk away, there is a unique spring. Due to the rare minerals it contains, the spring water sparkles in bright turquoise. The water of the Acqueverdi waterfall cascades down from the high, enchanting Alpine valley to the village of Saint-Marcel, where our distillery is located. This mineral-rich water has an incredible effect on the purity of our spirits. In the mountain village of Saint-Marcel, a centuries-old chestnut tree marks the start of a path that winds its way through enchanting Alpine meadows. At the end of the valley is the source of the Acqueverdi waterfall. The unique mineral content of the spring water transforms the rocks over which it trickles into shining emeralds. Gentian, wild mallow and mountain roses grow in large numbers on the banks of the mountain stream. This water and these mountain herbs make our gin something unique.
