Michter's

Michter’s Distillery, LLC (“Michter’s”) is based in Louisville, Kentucky, USA, the heart of the American whiskey industry. Michter’s makes highly acclaimed, limited production whiskeys and is renowned for its very small batch bourbon, single barrel bourbon, single barrel rye, and very small batch unblended American whiskey. The brand´s history traces back to America’s first distilling company, established in 1753 by John Shenk, a Swiss Mennonite farmer. To ensure its preeminent quality, Michter’s employs a “cost be damned” approach to the production of its whiskey. In its uncompromising production, Michter's utilizes various methods some of which are drying the wood used in the construction of its barrels, in certain instances up to 36 months; toasting barrels prior to charring them; using a barrel entry proof of 103 proof (52.5% ABV) rather than the industry standard 125 proof for the rye and the bourbon it is laying down; utilizing heat cycling; and adopting the best individual filtration technique for each of its offerings. Michter’s whiskeys have received glowing reviews from many of the most respected spirits writers in the United States. Wine Enthusiast magazine and F. Paul Pacult’s Spirit Journal have both awarded Michter’s their highest ratings ever given to spirits, and Food & Wine magazine called Michter’s the “Best American Whiskey.” In 2012, Michter’s was selected by Wine Enthusiast magazine as its “Distiller of the Year,” one of the global beverage industry’s most prestigious honors. In 2013, Michter’s joined the Kentucky Distillers’ Association (“KDA”) as its first ever Proof-level member. The KDA, a legendary trade association, has been Kentucky’s foremost voice on Bourbon and distilled spirits for more than 130 years. The US*1 expressions, so named to honor Michter’s heritage tracing back to America’s first whiskey company, consist of some of the finest single barrel and truly small batch whiskeys available. Distilled to Master Distiller Dan McKee exacting specifications, no US*1 whiskey is ever released until Willie and Michter’s tasting panel deems it ready. The 10-Year Bourbon, 10-Year Rye and 20-Year Bourbon expressions represent the exceptional results of uncompromising craftsmanship and Kentucky's benevolent climate which with its broad temperature fluctuations is perfect for aging rye and bourbon. Often much older than the age statement on the label, only a select few barrels age with the elegance required for inclusion in these highly limited releases. The grand dames of the portfolio, Michter’s 25-Year Rye and 25-Year Bourbon represent more than a quarter century of maturation in the Distillery’s finest barrels. Available only as stocks permit, these outstanding whiskeys are extraordinarily rich in flavor. In 2019 US#1 Sour Mash Whiskey became the first whiskey made in the United States to ever achieve the honor being named „Whisky Of The Year“ for 2019 by The Whisky Exchange.
